We currently have an opportunity to join the Laurier community as Alumni Relations Officer, Faculties.

Alumni Relations supports the aims and objectives of Wilfrid Laurier University by building programs and strengthening relationships with the University’s alumni and students, thereby development the basis for successful fundraising and relationship building. This position is part of a team reporting to the Associate Director, Alumni Relations and is responsible for the strategic development, implementation and evaluation of communication, events and programs designed to engage alumni and students in the life of the University with a specific focus on strengthening relationships between the Faculties and their graduates. The regular hours of work for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm.

Accountabilities : Relationship Building

·  Works with the Faculties and the Associate Directors and Director of Development within the faculties to develop communication plans, programs and events to engage alumni and strengthen the relationships between the Faculties and their graduates, ensuring that the strategic goals of the department are met

·  Develops effective liaison strategies with alumni, students, faculties, volunteers, Advancement colleagues, departments and other campus stakeholders.

·  Leverages opportunities for alumni engagement with campus partners, including, but not limited to: Student Recruitment, Continuing Education, Ceremonies and Events (e.g. convocation), and senior administration (e.g Dean’s travel).

·  Conducts personal visits with alumni to strengthen their relationship with the university and with their faculties.

·  Works closely with Development to engage alumni in a strategic way during campaign;

·  Represents Alumni Relations and the University to external audiences, including alumni, students, faculty, staff and parents.

Program Planning, Development and Evaluation

·  Understands the emerging trends of student, alumni and volunteer behaviour, including demographic trends; in consultation with the Faculties and the Associate Director, designs and implements innovative relationship building programs that address these trends and assists in meeting the department’s relationship building goals.

·  Responsible for developing and coordinating alumni recognition / award programs e.g. Awards of Excellence, alumni volunteer opportunities within the Faculties e.g. speaking in the classroom, and niche / industry specific alumni programming.

·  Collects comparative data to evaluate program performance; makes recommendations for changes designed to enhance program effectiveness. Provide accurate and timely program analysis to key stakeholders. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement though applied benchmarking efforts as applicable;

·  Contributes to the development and implementation of THE strategic plan that compliments and enhances the overall goals and objectives of Alumni Relations.

Communication

·  Coordinates faculty specific alumni communication – e-newsletters requiring liaising with the faculties to secure relevant content and designing the layout of the newsletter.

·  Assist with other forms of alumni communications such as Campus magazine, the Alumni web site, and event invitations.

·  Responsible for identifying new opportunities to engage alumni and create strategies to effectively promote alumni programs.

Volunteer Management

·  Co-ordinates the recruitment, training, orientation and tracking of volunteers within the faculty related programs (i.e. alumni and students).

·  Supports the Alumni Association Outreach Committee with operational tasks to execute their initiatives.

Administrative and Other Responsibilities:

·  Responsible within the faculties for the implementation and tracking of the alumni metrics program.

·  Budget/financial responsibilities

·  Assists with all other alumni and annual giving events and programs that include, but are not limited to, conferences, professional development days, seminars, award ceremonies, donor events, networking events, social events, community programs, and alumni awareness programs.

·  Commitment to ongoing professional development through reading current literature, attending meetings, participating in webinars and professional associations, and developing working relationships with colleagues at other institutions.

·  Responsible to support the hiring, leadership, and training of the Co-op student, intern, and Ontario Work-Study positions.

Qualifications : ·  A university degree with a minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of

relevant and transferable work experience.

·  Experience in program planning, creative development and implementation, preferably in a University setting;

·  Knowledge of principles and methods for the operation of successful alumni programs.

·  Advanced knowledge of volunteer management concepts; recruitment, training and orientation experience is essential.

·  Overall awareness of University and Alumni messages and key objectives, and the ability to translate that awareness into activities that effectively convey the appropriate tone and message.

·  Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to relate and work successfully with multiple constituencies, both internal and external to achieve shared goals.

·  Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively in a complex environment, but also to work independently and without close supervision. Take initiative, follow directions, and work collaboratively with academic and administrative staff, alumni, students, volunteers, and other University “friends”.

·  Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·  Strong event planning skills are crucial.

·  Exceptional organization skills, high level of attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritize projects;

·  Sound knowledge of basic financial reporting, accounting and/or budgeting experience.

·  Strong presentation skills and comfort in front of diverse audiences are essential.The incumbent will be innovative and self-motivating with demonstrated creativity in problem-solving and program creation. Must be able to identify problems and opportunities, as well as analyze situations and/or information and make recommendations.

·  Must be proficient with desktop software (i.e. spreadsheets, word processing, presentation etc.), have sound knowledge of database management and possess an ability to learn and adapt to new software tools;

·  Ability to perform in an environment characterized by frequent, uncontrollable changes in priorities that result in unexpected changes in the pace of work.

·  Ability to work in an environment where there is occasional/daily exposure to “minor environmental conditions” (i.e. irregular work hours, some travelling).

Salary : $33.75 – $39.72
