Reporting to the Program Manager, the Aquatics Supervisor participates as a member of the Health, Fitness and Aquatics team and provides leadership to the aquatic program area, ensuring program excellence. The core function of this position is program planning and implementation, customer service, staff and volunteer recruitment, training, and performance management. Hours of work will vary including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays based on rotational schedule and arranged in advance; emphasis of this position will be on direct program development/ delivery and statistical tracking, facility supervision and the provision of excellent customer service through relationship building strategies. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance in all Public Health Regulations including ratios, pool logs, and water quality. Additional responsibilities include instructional and lifeguard duties.
Responsible for the development, scheduling and delivery of Aquatics programs and member engagement activities
Ensure appropriate scheduling and high quality swim lessons delivered in accordance with YMCA Canada Swim Lessons
Recruitment, training, and mentoring of all staff and volunteer team members for the purpose of delivering excellence in service through Aquatics programs
Provide direct leadership in programs modeling/ mentoring service excellence
Adherence to all regulatory and compliance requirements included water testing, pool logs, attendance tracking, water balancing, and guard qualifications
Will be required to teach aqua fitness as needed
Regular usage of pool chemicals and cleaning supplies for water and deck equipment maintenance
Extended periods of work time will be spent standing, sitting or a combination thereof; as well, strong focused mental attention to surroundings is required
Needs to be able to manage varying amounts of weight to assist lifeguards/members/program participants in the pool in case of an emergency and to lift /use chemicals
Works as an active member of the Branch Leadership Team with scheduled Team Leader shifts, which includes taking the lead on all first aid/emergency situations and being the acting General Manager for the branch
Relevant aquatic certification as follows:
Current CPRC and Standard First Aid
National Lifeguard, YMCA/LSS Instructor Certification
Minimum 2 years experience in a related field supervising staff and volunteers, including recruitment, training and conducting performance appraisals
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Aquafit Instructor certification is an asset
Aquatic Trainer certification is an asset
Must provide a current Police Records Check/Vulnerable Sector Search as per the Association’s policy
