STARTING SALARY: $72,000 ANNUALY – SUBJECT TO EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

OVERVIEW:

Garden River First Nation is searching for a strategic, strong-minded, financially and analytically sound Band Manager to join our team in Garden River, Ontario.

Reporting directly to GRFN Chief and Council, the Band Manager serves as the strategic link between Governance and Administration.  The position is responsible for collaborating with Chief and Council to ensure good governance of the First Nation as well as supporting Departmental Managers to reach the goals that have been established in the strategic plan.  The Band Manager participates in the design and execution of all programs and services at both strategic and operational levels while providing guidance and support to Managers in the areas of goal setting, action planning and implementation.

The Band Manager fosters an environment that promotes strong fiscal responsibility, effective communications, positive relations and teamwork. The position functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of GRFN.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensuring that Chief and Council’s Strategic Plan, priorities and objectives are implemented
  • Leading Administration Management and acting as a liaison between Governance and Administration
  • Completing business plans for the attainment of the goals set out in the strategic plan
  • Developing resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the First Nation
  • Analyzing key indictors related to administration performance, as well as recommending improvements to Chief and Council
  • Reviewing and recommending amendments to policy to align with the strategic direction of the First Nation
  • Attending all applicable Garden River First Nation Chief and Council meetings (working meetings, membership, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or other related Degree is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in accounting principles, including budgeting and reporting processes, policies and procedures is mandatory
  • Knowledge and experience in Human Resources, including effective management of staff, familiarity of regulations and legislation governing employees is mandatory
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in a senior management position
  • Familiarity with a transparent internal leadership model
  • Demonstrated understanding of roles and responsibilities of Boards and Committees
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and knowledge of, the First Nation’s cultural values and traditions
  • Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
  • Flexibility required to keep pace with an ever-changing environment
  • Stamina, sensitivity and strong negotiation and advocacy skills
  • Willingness to accept changes in work practices and technology
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent computer proficiency (including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet, Email, Outlook)
