The Community Energy Champion reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Director of Public Works. The Community Energy Champion assists the Director of Public Works and the Energy Project Manager in managing and coordinating energy related activities within the Six Nations of The Grand River Territory. Mentors under the Energy Project Manager and takes required training to obtain specialty knowledge, experience and expertise in the energy sector to transition the Energy Portfolio under the Six Nations Public Works Department of the Six Nations Elected Council within the policies and procedures established by Six Nations Elected Council.


  • Previous experience with data collecting (Ability to collect, document, analyze and interpret data and information).
  • Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on team management.
  • Highly developed verbal communication ability, including public speaking
  • Advanced writing ability is mandatory.
  • Extensive experience in project management, research and analysis
  • Strategic thinking and problem solving ability
  • Grant and proposal writing experience
  • Must be able to consult with Band members
  • College and/or University degree is mandatory.
  • Must be able to handle a variety of different work types (e.g. desk, field, public, team, independent).
  • Must have excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize tasks and to ensure successful completion of same
  • Ability to work with tact and discretion; must have excellent public relations and communications skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
  • Knowledge of mathematical concepts
  • Ability to manage budgets and finances
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Ability to work flexible hours. Must be available evenings and weekends as needed
  • Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation
  • Must have initiative and self-direction and able to work independently
  • Must be able to interact with committees, contractors, public and other departments and government agencies with tact, discretion and diplomacy
