EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY- INTERNAL POSTING COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER – One Year Term Position HOME & COMMUNITY CARE
Under the direction of the Case Manager, this position functions as a member of the Home and Community Care team; to provide support to at risk individuals and families based on specifics needs that will link services to effectively meet the needs of clients; and encourage client independence; and generate family and community support.
Essential Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Diploma or degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in the area of Social Services
Minimum of two years of support experiences in a non-institutional setting
Be in good physical condition to meet the demands of the job.
Proof of current First Aid and CPR & Current immunizations
Valid driver’s license, clear driver abstract, and have access to the use of a motor vehicle.
High level of knowledge and understanding of people with disabilities, addictions, mental health and issues with the elderly.
Extensive knowledge of existing resources on and off Territory.
excellent verbal and written communication skills and high level of interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Aboriginal culture & traditional approaches to helping
Knowledge of issues related to elders, disabled and mental health
Knowledge of Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte Policies and Procedures and applicable program policies and procedures.
fluent in spoken and written English
understanding of the Mohawk language is an asset
self-directed but willing to seek assistance when required
organization skills to manage client needs successfully within the home in an innovative and adaptable manner
Able to work well within a team environment
Ability to liaise with families and health agencies as well as the Tyendinaga Mohawk Council for the elderly and disabled
Ability to motivate self and workers in all situations
Able to relate to and support all clients in a non-judgmental approach
Able to work with confidence using a variety of computer programs
Able to initiate policies and procedures as related to the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte and its programs
Must provide a clear Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Check
