CHILD CARE EDUCATOR
Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte – Eksa O’Kon’: a Child Care Centre
12 Month Term Position – 40 hours per week

Reporting to the Day Care Manager, the Child Care Educator will provide educational/age appropriate learning experiences through planned activities for children.  Ensures the safety and well-being of children.  Contributes to the operation of the program and facility, and works effectively in a Team environment.

Provides educational/age appropriate learning experiences through planned activities for children by:

  • promoting and teaching Mohawk language and cultural diversity;
  • planning and coordinating special trips to enhance learning experiences;
  • recommending and maintaining teaching materials, and equipment;
  • promoting and assisting in positive parent /child interaction;
  • providing parents with resources on child behaviour, discipline, health, safety and nutrition;
  • planning and implementing daily/weekly/monthly/annual routines, based on children’s interests;
  • researching and advising on child care issues by attending conferences, workshops, training and meetings;

Essential Qualifications:

  • Graduate from a postsecondary institution in Early Childhood Education, registered with the College of Early Childhood Education (RECE)
  • Must be registered with the College of Early Childhood Education (RECE)
  • Consideration would be given to a diploma or degree in social services fields who are working towards an ECE, and have equivalent related experience
  • Updated immunization
  • Previous experience an asset
  • Safe Food Handling Certification an asset

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of childcare programs and other programs within MBQ and the broader community
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the theories and principles related to the provision of childcare services including education, child nurturing and behaviour
  • Knowledge of Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014
  • Knowledge of current policies and procedures
  • High level of confidentiality
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • High level of sensitivity
  • Willing to travel, i.e.  workshops, conferences
  • Excellent computer skills an asset, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet
  • Sense of humour
  • High degree of initiative and self-direction

Other:

  • Must be able to provide clear Vulnerable Sector check
  • Must have CPR and First Aid, and have total compliance to confidentiality
