The Dean of Students (Waterloo) is an integral member of the Laurier community and in collaboration with multiple colleagues and partners is the primary source of support for students. Reporting to the Vice-President Student Affairs and working collegially with the Dean of Students (Brantford), the Dean of Students (Waterloo) works with faculty, staff, student organizations, and alumni, to share and shape processes, policies, research, services and supports that contribute to an enriched student experience. The Dean of Students Office provides senior leadership on the student experience, manages concerning behaviour and student risk, facilitates student support, and informs policies and practices that directly impact students’ academic and personal success at Laurier. The Dean of Students also has responsibility to Senior Administration and University governance related to advocacy, development, wellness, safety, conduct, leadership, engagement, crisis response and ultimately institutional reputation.

As the ideal candidate, you are passionate about student success and student development, you have demonstrated knowledge and experience in crisis management, risk assessment, student mental health, sexual violence, student case management and student conduct. You have the ability to perform, make high-impact decisions and juggle multiple priorities within a high stress environment, and you have the ability to design and implement new programs, and to build positive and meaningful relationships with various stakeholder groups. You are an excellent communicator with sharp presentation skills, and possess empathy, understanding and have supportive characteristics. You have a proven ability to manage budgets, and possess strong time management and organizational skills. Your Master’s level education and more than seven years experience in a leadership role focused on student support and development in a post-secondary environment and managing staff provide you with the foundation to assume this transformational role at Laurier.
