Reporting to the Manager/Team Lead of Lines Engineering, the position has the following accountabilities:
Perform complex engineering design for transmission line facilities, including preparation of detailed design specifications, estimates, design standards, and equipment tender evaluation to meet project needs.
Perform complex electrical studies including grounding, induction, lightning, insulation, etc. for new and existing transmission lines.
Prepare complete design sketches and instructions for drafting, and review drawings for completeness and accuracy.
Participate in studies of technical problems, designs, and construction methods to ensure compatibility and integrate the work of others.
Collaborate with others in the corporation in creating recommendations for the effective operation and maintenance of new and existing line facilities.
Act as a line technical specialist to internal units and external agencies by providing advice, guidance and recommendations on applications.
Develop or participate in developing or modifying computer programs or systems for design analysis.
Evaluate commercially available software.
Assist supervisor with technical and administrative work on activities in relation to transmission and distribution lines design and construction
Education and Qualifications:
Must have a university degree in Electrical Engineering.
Must be a registered Professional Engineer.
Must have strong analytical skills for performing engineering studies and analysis.
Must have working knowledge of PLSCADD software for Transmission Line design.
Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
Must have a demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction and business unit objectives.
Must have strong problem solving skills.
Must have proven independence and ability to establishing co-operative working relation, trust and mutual respect in team environment.
Must have demonstrated self-motivated behavior, perseverance and ability to overcome obstacles.
Essential knowledge and experience:
Require a sound engineering knowledge and progressive experience in the design related to electrical and hardware of overhead and/or underground lines to effectively perform in the “Specialist” capacity.
A period of up to 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
Requires experience in the line design areas to gain familiarity with the practical approaches, methods, and techniques pertinent to design and appreciation of the application and characteristics of line equipment.
Requires experience related to fieldwork to appreciate the construction and installation practicalities versus design.
Requires a basic understanding of:
Performance, construction, commissioning, or maintenance of transmission and distribution lines
Project management, including scoping, estimating, scheduling, execution planning, project monitoring and co-ordination
Industry standards and material specifications.
