Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director, Human Resources is a vital contributing member of Haisla Nation’s executive leadership team. As the human resources leader for the nation, the Director will aid in the development, implementation, and management of all projects to improve human resources systems, practices, resources and programs.
The Director will create an employee-oriented, inclusive culture that emphasizes empowerment, professionalism and productivity. They will oversee the recruitment and ongoing development of an engaged and effective workforce. The Director will also lead the development of human resources programs including Employee Recognition, Compensation & Benefits, Return-to-Work and Team Building programs.
Additionally, the Director will foster a positive, communicative, progressive environment and will engage in a respectful manner with staff to facilitate continuous improvement and innovation, service excellence, work performance and quality. The successful incumbent will provide leadership, oversight and guidance to the Human Resource Manager and other managers across the organization to ensure all employees have clarity on their roles and their unique contributions to organizational goals.
The successful candidate for the Director role is an adaptable and resourceful leader. They demonstrate a commitment to the organization’s mission and values including integrity, credibility and quality and they bring the following key credentials and attributes:
A post-secondary degree in Human Resource Management, Business, Leadership or Education or a combination of post-secondary education and related experience;
A Certified Human Resources Professional designation will be an asset;
At least five (7) years of experience in a senior human resources role;
Proven experience overseeing a dynamic and modern human resources function;
Proficient in computer and Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power point; Experience overseeing HRIS will be an asset;
Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to work collaboratively and mentor staff within a fast-moving environment;
A compassionate approach to employees, communities and stakeholders who are dedicated to creating a prosperous future for Indigenous Peoples;
Ability to work in a busy environment and maintain confidentiality;
Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation Board regulations;
Knowledge of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada policies and procedures, Human Rights legislation, Labour Canada regulations, and knowledge of union agreements.
