Event Planning & Fundraising Assistant

The Event Planning & Fundraising Assistant will work collaboratively with the Promotions & Recruitment Coordinator in planning and coordinating the Anishinabek Education Institute’s 25th Anniversary Celebration. The position will provide administrative as well as technical support in all aspects of the planning process leading up to the successful hosting of the event while working within the policies and processes of the Union of Ontario Indians. This is a one-year internship position reporting directly to the Nipissing Site Coordinator or designate.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Assist with planning, coordination, marketing and promotion of 25th Anniversary Celebration;
  • Connect and maintain ongoing communication with AEI’s Alumni members;
  • Assist with developing the event agenda and securing event speakers, presenters and entertainers;
  • Conduct outreach for event sponsorships and maintain ongoing communication;
  • Secure event venue and all other required vendors;
  • Develop a detailed communications and marketing plan for the event;
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of fundraising events and development of funding proposals;
  • Maintain records and files on funding and expenditures for the event;
  • Respond to calls and inquiries representing the organization in a professional and courteous manner;
  • Other related duties as requested.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Recent graduate within that last three years from an accredited college or university.
  • Postsecondary diploma or degree in the field of business administration, marketing, communications, public relations or related field.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Excellent organizing, planning and coordination skills.
  • Strong networking skills with individuals, small and large corporate organizations.
  • Event planning and coordination experience is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and all of its programs, and Photoshop and Adobe Suite on a Mac platform.
  • Knowledge of the Anishinabek Educational Institute and Anishinabek Nation is an asset.
  • The position must provide the intern with first time employment in their field of study.
  • Candidates are only eligible to participate in the internship program one time.
  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Term:    Up to May 2, 2019 from start date with possibility of extension

Salary:   $37,790.00 per annum
