Nature and Scope:
The Laurier Brantford YMCA is seeking a Head Lifeguard to work a variety of shifts. Hours of work will be based on the
needs of the branch. Aquatic team members are responsible for the delivery of customer service excellence through
member satisfaction and safety during recreational swims as well as instruction of both individual and group
Advancement of pay rate is dependent on working a minimum of six months (per position if more than one position
is held within the Laurier Brantford YMCA or the YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford) consecutively or a
minimum of 130 hours and the ability to perform the job at a satisfactory level. Successful candidates must also
demonstrate ongoing professional development, involvement in branch specific activities, attend staff
meetings/trainings and achieve an assessment of “meeting expectations” on each annual performance review in
order to satisfy eligibility for Association approved merit increases.
Primary responsibility is coverage of Lifeguard shifts;
Experience in the usage of pool chemicals and cleaning supplies for water and deck equipment maintenance;
Ability to provide excellent customer service to members and participants by ensuring that health and safety
regulations and YMCA policies and procedures are upheld;
Teach, guard and coach a variety of aquatic programs;
Maintain all relevant and required records;
Develop lesson plans and administer progressive evaluations;
Work with staff and volunteers assigned to aquatic area;
Maintain and upgrade as required current qualifications and certifications;
Attend scheduled training events;
Help support the supervision of staff in the absence of the Aquatics Supervisor to ensure consistency in the water and
on the deck
Responsible for scheduling training and Aquatics Team Leader (ATL) shifts during swim lessons
Responsible for completing payroll in the absence of the Aquatics Supervisor
Will have shifts as an Aquatics Team Leader during peak swim lesson times
Deliberately identifies and creates opportunities to enhance each and every individual’s Laurier
Brantford YMCA experience.

Salary Notes :
Position Status: Full-Time Contract (One Year)
Plus $1.25 premium for all shifts worked as Aquatic Team Leader and $1.00/hour
premium for all hours worked Monday to Friday between 5:00AM and 3:00PM.
