In collaboration with the Senior Manager of Community Relations, promote and implement Hydro One’s municipal relations strategy in support of Hydro One’s corporate goals and strategy.
Build, execute and maintain effective and strategic relationships with municipalities across the province.
Establish and maintain contacts, both at the elected and staff level.
Develop strong rapport and relationships with external and internal stakeholder groups, allowing for open and constructive communication and achievement of corporate objectives.
Act as a conduit between the Company and municipal stakeholders to engender awareness of, and support for, various Company projects, programs and initiatives.
Manage municipal relations activities including:
Interactions with municipal staff (e.g. CAOs and Clerks)
Interfacing with key municipal associations such as AMO, NOMA, FONOM, etc.
Manage and supervise Municipal Relations staff and oversee their development, work structure and measure outcomes of the Municipal Relations program.
Manage logistics and notification for formal, municipal public hearings.
Assess success of municipal relations’ strategy for discussion with the Senior Manager, and others, as appropriate.
Ensure relationships are managed in a manner that enhances and/or improves the Company’s corporate reputation.
Facilitate public and internal meetings, as required.
Monitor and keep abreast of industry news and developments, legislative and municipal developments and stakeholder and opinion leader positions on issues important to the company in order to anticipate and plan for local developments.
Monitor and attend select committee hearings, council meetings and other events to identify and manage issues.
Identify opportunities to correct misunderstandings, the public record and to manage conflicting and emerging issues.
Organize and coordinate company participation in a wide range of public events including community events, fairs, trade shows, and public meetings.
Monitor and maintain data in Borealis to ensure up-to-date record keeping of stakeholders, issues and commitments.
Coordinate and write the production of graphic and narrative presentations.
Respond to requests for information from multiple sources in a timely and professional manner, ensuring that communication appropriately resolves issues and presents the Company in the best possible light.
Work closely with the Senior Manager to provide strategic communication advice and operation support to field staff on local issues.
Identify strategies and tactics that bring positive resolution to local issues.
Selection Criteria & Essential Competencies
Ability to develop strong rapport and relationship with all stakeholder groups, allowing for open and constructive communication and achievement of corporate objectives.
Ability to think on your feet in difficult and stressful environments.
Demonstrated ability to write clear and compelling communication materials, including, but not limited to: correspondence, consultation reports, newsletters, briefing notes, media materials, and brochures.
Highly developed organizational, analytical, and conceptual abilities – demonstrated insight and the ability to establish innovative solutions to complex issues
10 years of Stakeholder Relations experience
Demonstrates principled leadership, reliability, judgment, and sound business ethics.
Team leadership: proven ability to take a role as leader of a highly-engaged team
Analytical thinking – ability to understand a situation by segmenting and tracing implications step by step
Customer-First Orientation: desire to help or serve others, to meet their needs
Developing Others – takes action to foster the long-term learning and development of others
Initiative – takes action, proactively doing things and not simply thinking about future actions
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Journalism or Political Science and or 10 years of direct experience
