7-Month Contract Position (with potential for extension)
Position: Nurse Lead
Summary: Under the supervision of Matawa Health Co-operative Inc. Planner, the Nurse Lead shall assist in the continued development and implementation of strategies to support the Co-op under the Co- op Planner. The Nurse Lead will be responsible for overseeing the planning, program development, negotiations, implementation, evaluation and professional development of the co-op nursing component. Proposal development and collaboration with other groups on joint initiatives will be expected.
The Nurse Lead will research and help develop a Matawa Health Co-operative nursing initiative. This will include both the initiation of a nursing transfer outline from Health Canada and developing a mobile nursing service with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care from Ontario (MHLTC). This entails researching existing nursing models; conducting community visits for engagement; presenting the different models to community leadership and dissemination to community members collecting feedback and using this feedback for the development of a sustainable model of nursing care collaborating with existing community health based programs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
Masters in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner or Nurse with Extended Class for Remote Nursing;
Minimum of 2 years of related nursing and supervisory work experience;
Excellent leadership, management, motivation and problem- solving skills;
Excellent organization and planning skills;
Ability to speak Oji-Cree or Ojibway an asset;
Broad knowledge of the services provided Matawa First Nations and member First Nations. They must be familiar with the politics and health related trends in the area and able to translate that familiarity into social action to benefit the local health programs.
Good knowledge of the programs, regulations, and procedures of Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, including Non-Insured Health Benefits;
Willing and able to travel;
The ability to maintain confidentiality.

Valid Ontario driver’s license
The incumbent must maintain strict confidentiality in performing the duties. The incumbent must also demonstrate the following personal attributes:
Must be able to perform work duties with minimal supervision

Must be willing to travel as required
Must provide a current Criminal Record Check and tuberculosis skin test
Must be a current member in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses
