The Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program is a certification program that confirms corporate performance in Aboriginal relations at the Bronze, Gold and Silver level. Certified companies promote their level with a PAR logo that signals to communities that they are Good business partners, great places to work and, are committed to the prosperity in Aboriginal communities. PAR certification provides a high level of assurance to communities because the designation is supported by an independent, third party verification of company reports. The final company level is determined by a jury comprised of Aboriginal business people. The PAR program has undergone changes to support increased program participation. The program’s accessibility has been increased through an online launch, development of a more structured and progressive reporting framework. Increased company participation in the PAR program will require increased PAR support services.
The Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) is seeking expressions of interest/applications from qualified First Nations, Métis, or Inuit candidates.
CCAB PAR Trainer Purpose:
PAR trainers support corporate participation in the PAR program at both the PAR Committed and PAR Certified levels of the program. PAR Trainers must sign a CCAB confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement. PAR Trainers will be required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest. All successful applicants will be provided CCAB PAR training on both levels.
CCAB PAR Trainer Role:
PAR trainers will be required to train companies on the PAR committed and certified levels of the PAR Program. At the PAR committed level, PAR trainers provide committed level criteria training sessions to companies in need of guidance on the committed level criteria, in preparation of applying to the certified level.
At the Certified Level PAR trainers provide training on the certified level criteria covering the four PAR Drivers: Leadership Actions, Employment, Business Development and Community Relationships.
Candidate Selection Criteria:
Eligible candidates for this program meet the following criteria:
Eight years’ experience in working in business, preferably in the area of Aboriginal relations or corporate social responsibility
Degree or diploma in business, or work experience that establishes a solid foundation in functional business areas, including an understanding of management systems
Good analytical skills, and an understanding of variance reporting within an organization, for example HR data review, procurement and annual reports, etc.
An appreciation of the working structures and inter-relationships that take place in organizations
Knowledge in the area of Aboriginal relations
Good communication skills and experience in facilitating/leading and conducting group sessions (for example focus group and/or workshops); an appreciation of a facilitation process
Preferred: Knowledge of industries working closely with the Aboriginal community and of Aboriginal communities
Ongoing availability/flexibility will be required as part of participation of the PAR program
PAR Verifiers will be required to travel
Knowledge of French language is an asset but not a requirement
