About Mississauga First Nation

Mississauga First Nations (MFN) is located along Hwy 17, 348 km west of the city of Sudbury and 278 km east of the city of Sault Ste Marie. It is adjacent to the Town of Blind River situated along the North Shore of Lake Huron and has a staff of 97 full and part-time employees within all of its service departments and a member population of 1,120 with approximately 450 members living on-reserve.

About the Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Clerk to join our team in Mississauga First Nation on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Payroll Clerk will be responsible for providing high quality, professional payroll services and ensuring sound financial administration practices.

More specifically, you will collect, verify and process payroll information and determine pay and benefit entitlements for employees within Mississauga First Nation. You will also be expected to provide assistance to the Accounting Department.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Process Bi-weekly and Weekly Payroll.
  • Process New and Exiting Employees.
  • Verify benefit and pension enrolment forms are completed.
  • Calculate and deduct benefit and pension entitlements for eligible employees.
  • Complete T4 statements for all employees at year-end.
  • Complete remittances to HRDC, Revenue Canada, WSIB, Benefit & Pension Company and Family Responsibility Centre.
  • Process internal department transfers such as Pension and Benefit Insurance, Heavy Equipment, etc.
  • Collect and maintain records of approved leave requests in the appropriate database.
  • Accounting Reconciliation.
  • Ensure completion of administrative tasks as required.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence as required.
  • Prepare an annual work plan and monthly report.
  • Develop and maintain a record keeping system for the program.

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a Degree/Post Secondary Diploma in the Accounting, Bookkeeping and/or Payroll Administration field plus a minimum of 2 years experience working in payroll with the SAGE accounting system.

You will also possess:

  • Certificates and/or training in Payroll Administration (Asset).
  • Experience working with aboriginal people, organizations and communities.
  • Knowledge of Mississauga First Nation programs and services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • The ability to work well both in a team and independently.
