Provincial System Support Program

Position Description:

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)’s Provincial System Support Program (PSSP) works with partners across Ontario to support the province’s 10-year Comprehensive Mental Health and Addictions Strategy and create sustainable, system-level change. With offices across the province, PSSP is on the ground, collaborating with stakeholders to build a better system through our work in implementation, knowledge exchange, evaluation, information management, health equity and priority population engagement.

The Provincial System Support Program is seeking a First Nation, Inuit or Métis person as the Aboriginal Initiative Lead for the Northwest Region (Kenora office). Reporting to the Regional Manager, the successful candidate will work as part of the Regional Implementation Team. The Aboriginal Initiative Lead is an integral part of the Aboriginal Engagement and Outreach (AEO) team, which focuses on building relationships and collaborative partnerships, providing training to support workforce development, advancing culturally relevant systems initiatives, and improving practice through research and knowledge exchange.

Responsibilities of this position include sharing information about CAMH’s programs and services with Aboriginal communities, agencies and organizations in the Northwest Region, and maintaining partner relationships, and sharing back with the AEO team. The Aboriginal Initiative Lead is the PSSP representative at the region, and provides an important lens in our work with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, agencies and organizations. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, service providers, agencies and organizations, in urban, rural and remote areas. The incumbent requires a thorough understanding of community protocols, political structures, cultural practices and impacts of historical events unique to First Nations, Inuit and Métis. The successful incumbent’s clinical experience, work in mental health and addictions, system health knowledge, understanding of health equity, harm reduction, person-centred care and trauma-informed practice will compliment this role. The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple aspects of work simultaneously, contribute to provincial and regional research and clinical initiatives as needed, work independently, as well as with a diverse team. The candidate will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

This position requires regular travel throughout Northwestern Ontario including remote First Nations communities. Occasional travel to Toronto is also required. A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.


The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Health Services, Social Services or an equivalent combination of a University degree in a related discipline with a minimum of three (3) years’ related experience in the field of mental health or health services. The incumbent must be a First Nations, Inuit or Métis person with demonstrated community connections. Excellent organization, facilitation, communication, networking, research, evaluation, and presentation skills, along with high computer proficiency are necessary.

Candidates also require the ability to work effectively in a wide-range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Bilingualism (English / French) and/or the ability to speak an Aboriginal language are considered an asset.

Please note: This full time permanent position located in the Kenora office is NOT part of any bargaining unit.
