Reporting to the Project Manager, Landscape Architecture Unit, the Project Coordinator Landscape Architect will provide a diverse range of landscape architectural services to all client groups ensuring appropriate consultation and delivery of parks and planning initiatives.
Major responsibilities of the Project Coordinator Landscape Architect are:
- Reviews projects and liaises with other PF&R staff to determine needs, standards and priorities for landscape and planning projects
- Consults with and presents to internal and external client groups landscape plans, designs and related materials for area landscape initiatives and opportunities including but not necessarily limited to presentation materials, conceptual designs, master plans, site planning, studies, standards for parks, open spaces and amenities, storm water management facilities, park and amenity designs, costing and phasing plans, ecological planning and design, construction drawings and specifications, land-use planning matters including policy initiatives, development applications and road closings
- Evaluates sites and analyzes data, such as, location and demographics, user profiles and patterns, soil and drainage and environmental conditions, adjacent land uses, vegetation, climatic and micro-climatic conditions
- Checks designs and cost estimates prepared by others including consultants to determine course of design and feasibility of construction for current projects and future parks, and planning budget initiatives of the division/branch
- Completes requests for proposals for the provision of consultants
- Provides direction and coordinates efforts of consultants retained for services related to landscape planning initiatives of the Division, including design competitions
- Provides services as required to implement projects and administer work in progress including the preparation and tracking of all construction records, change notices, payment approvals, etc.
- Coordinates efforts of consultants retained for services related to landscape and planning initiatives of the division
- Reviews proposals from external proponents to assess impacts of proposed facilities and infrastructure on PF&R assets (e.g. parks, trails, recreation facilities)
- Requisitions special equipment, material and supplies and liaise with suppliers and other City divisions for provision of goods and services
- Maintains records of all plans and documentation including as-built conditions
- Prepares conceptual designs, master plans, parks and trails studies and standards for parks, open spaces and amenities in consultation with internal stakeholders and community groups
- Represents the Branch or Division at Community Councils, Committees, community advisory groups, task forces or other meetings with involved parties as required
- Prepares and gives expert evidence relating to parks design matters as required, including to the Ontario Municipal Board and other proceedings
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Degree/diploma in Landscape Architecture or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive and progressive experience working within a professional team environment in the field of landscape architecture with specific emphasis on parks and recreation.
- Experience in the use of current office and workplace technology and other computer applications relevant to a landscape architectural environment (e.g. CAD, statistical analysis, databases, mapping, research, presentation graphics, etc.).
- Experience dealing effectively with the public and all other client groups both internal and external, consultants, contractors and staff.
- Possession of a valid Ontario “G” Drivers Licence and access to a vehicle for site visits.
You must also have:
- Membership in the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (Full membership preferred).
- Working knowledge of current practices in parks, urban forestry, horticulture, ecological restoration and landscape construction, including sustainable environmental design, use of native plants, innovative materials, storm water management and sensitive integration of built facilities with landscapes.
- Ability to prepare landscape plans, presentation graphics, written reports and cost estimates.
- Excellent graphics, drafting, report writing and presentation skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to deal effectively throughout all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of the project management process.
- Sound judgement in public and personal relations.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, problem solving, and customer service and team skills.
- Familiarity with government legislation in the area of occupational health and safety, including, but not limited to the design and development of parks, and recreation facilities, environmental improvements and ecological sustainable development.
