As a reflection of this commitment, Laurier is seeking an inaugural Senior Advisor: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion who will play a key role in the continued development of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within the institution and the broader community.
Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President: Academic and working in
direct collaboration with the Assistant Vice-President: Human Resources and Equity, the Senior Advisor: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will play a key leadership role in establishing Laurier’s reputation for excellence in equity, diversity and inclusion and advancing its priorities and goals. Working closely with academic and shared service units across Laurier, and through the establishment of an EDI Community of Practice, the Senior Advisor will guide the development of a comprehensive institutional strategy and provide advice, support and expertise to units across the institution in achieving their EDI-related goals.
As the ideal candidate, you come to the role with proven experience as an
organizational and/or community leader with significant contributions to EDI practice and a strong record of contributions to knowledge of EDI-related issues. You have experience championing large scale-initiatives addressing complex issues related to EDI, and in developing and implementing EDI strategies, policies and processes. You have the proven ability to manage in a complex and diverse environment while understanding and enabling diverse viewpoints and approaches and a demonstrated personal commitment to the creation and fostering of inclusive cultures. Your excellent interpersonal and communication skills and collaborative approach to building consensus will allow you to advise on sensitive issues while maintaining the dignity and confidentiality of all parties. The ideal candidate will be eligible to be appointed with tenure within a relevant academic unit at Laurier, a PhD or equivalent terminal degree is considered an asset but is not essential.
The Senior Advisor: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will hold a five (5) year term administrative appointment, subject to renewal for a further term, as well as a tenured faculty appointment in a department or equivalent for their teaching and research/scholarship. The incumbent will be supported to pursue and engage in teaching, mentorship, research/scholarship beyond their administrative responsibilities.
