Leverage your experience with Enterprise Architecture Frameworks, and your expertise working on large-scale information technology projects as a Senior Systems Integrator, IT (Solution Architect).
In this permanent opportunity within our IT Strategic Planning & Architecture section, you will act as a key Solution Architect resource for the Enterprise Architecture program, to help enterprise programs and projects deliver implementable solutions. As a Senior Systems Integrator, IT (Solution Architect), you will work with both business and technology representatives to develop an overall solution for the program, which will see you identifying the components needed, what they do and how they function together to produce the solution.
Your primary responsibilities as Senior Systems Integrator, IT (Solution Architect) will be varied. Specifically, you will:
- Gather, define and organize business and functional requirements, including acceptance criteria for use by developers and technology infrastructure to implement a capability.
- Develop architecture material for review by the IT Governance Committee for business and technology solution design.
- Provide direction, leadership and guidance to design, integrate and describe technology infrastructure that support organization and systems initiatives.
- Provide specialized architecture, technical and business consulting skills and services to meet specific project needs.
- Design computer systems, networks, etc., as per the requirements of the City’s business areas.
- Analyze and plan various project options based on time, budget and technology elements.
- Create Architecture artefacts based on City of Toronto’s Zachman Framework.
- Develop conceptual and logical data models.
- Facilitate JAD sessions to develop use cases and process diagrams.
- Work with Business Representatives to understand and describe the project Business, System and Technology Architecture.
- Be clearly identified as the senior technical lead on an assigned project – provide technical direction and mentoring for all project resources.
- Create best practices through the identification of reusable project-level assets.
- Facilitate the effective definition and management of the Technology Architecture (e.g., principles, models, standards, guidelines, plans).
- Supervise, motivate and train assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, and continuous learning, and encouraging innovation.
- Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of various formal contractual documents, e.g., Request for Information (RFI), Request for Proposals (RFP), Request for Quotation (RFQ), Statement of Work (SOW), Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Provide architecture leadership in the evaluation, selection and recommendation of strategies, technical solutions and professional services, and manage vendors and contractors in the overall architecture blueprinting phase of the solution delivery process.
- Identify and develop enterprise/cross-divisional architecture blueprints for initiatives to produce synergies and economies of scale.
- Negotiate with senior management, clients and various stakeholders, often with competing and conflicting goals, objectives and priorities.
- Provide assessments and recommendations of new technology trends on the effective use, acquisition and integration of technology by the City.
- Identify and analyze current business strategies, processes and practices in the context of evolving business, information, security, application and technology architecture and performance measures, prepare feasibility studies and recommend overall architecture for business initiatives, and leverage existing enterprise technology investments.
- Assess reuse patterns and recommend or develop scalable multi-jurisdictional business, information, security, application and technical architectures that meet client and business requirements consistent with enterprise architecture.
- Inform and educate senior managers, business users, architecture and technology peers on architecture and technology trends, and the effective use of business, information, security, application and technology architecture.
Your application for the role of Senior Systems Integrator, IT (Solution Architect) should describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, and considerable years of Architecture experience working on large-scale information technology projects, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience with Enterprise Architecture Frameworks, e.g., “The Open Group Architecture Framework” (TOGAF), Gartner or Zachman.
- Experience in defining technical architecture, building technical environments, supporting software development processes and initiatives, software configuration and database management.
- Experience using analytical and problem-solving skills in planning and designing creative solutions to meet customer needs.
- Experience in establishing and using enterprise architecture frameworks or a Technology Architecture domain-specific framework of principles, methodologies, standards and practices.
- Demonstrated ability and experience producing architecture blueprint artefacts, e.g., baseline.
- Demonstrated experience with complete life cycles of business solution implementation, focused on the architecture planning phases.
- Experience in producing architecture artefacts and deliverables in the context of an industry best practice methodology, including The Open Group Architecture Framework, US Federal Enterprise Architecture or a comparable methodology (an asset).
- Project management experience in all stages of complex technology projects, estimating resources and critical path identification in a large, diverse computing environment.
- Experience in preparing project documents (e.g., business case, feasibility study, detailed budget submission, RFx) and utilizing project management tools for planning and implementing complex projects and/or packages.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain an effective consulting relationship with corporate clients and vendors, with a strong customer service orientation and clear language focus.
- Excellent problem-solving, leadership, facilitation, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Proven ability to coach, train, and provide work direction to other project staff effectively, as well as appraise work outcomes and quality accurately and fairly as input to the manager.
