General Accountabilities

  • Provide health, safety and environmental management support to the employee’s line of business in Networks to achieve optimum performance.
  • Assist in the development of line of business approaches to safety and environmental matters.
  • Provide trend analysis and assessments based upon incident history and accident investigation.
  • Assist in developing line of business related policies and procedures

Specific Accountabilities

  • Assist the line of business regarding the aspects of individual responsibilities, setting objectives, programming, assessments and corrective actions.
  • Assist in directing and promoting for specific heath, safety, and environment initiatives within the line of business.
  • Provide quality checks on the delivery of initiatives and evaluate progress versus plan.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of health, safety, and environment processes for the line of business.
  • Assist in administering the health, safety, and environment programs for the line of business.  Including activities such as health, safety, and environmental education, collection, analysis, and distribution of health, safety, and environment performance data, WSIB, audits, etc.
  • Assist in the development and coordinate the implementation of Corporate and line of business policies relating to health, safety, and environment.
  • Assist in development of work methods and procedures to minimize hazards to staff and the environment.  Assist in the development of maintenance activities and work plans used by all management and supervisory staff to minimize hazards.
  • Assist in carrying out information programs for management and field staff to adequately measure, monitor, and report on safety and environmental accidents and incidents.
  • Provide statistics to all parties as required.
  • Perform analysis and support management staff in anticipating new potential problem areas in order to prevent recurrences.
  • Assist in the development of required records and information systems and ensure all records are maintained adequately and accurately.
  • Plan, initiate, and support the implementation of electronic databases and management systems to aid in the measuring, monitoring, and reporting of such health, safety, and environmental matters and other statistical data pertinent to health, safety, and the environment.
  • Assist in carrying out investigations of safety and/or environmental accidents and incidents in Network Services, as required, applying the systems approach including detailed analysis when required.  Keep management informed of safety and environmental accidents as they occur.
  • Assist or support health and safety review process, special projects, or studies in specific safety and environmental matters for the line of business.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in health, safety, and environmental management and monitor changes in the line of business strategies to incorporate such developments when applicable.
  • Produce line of business level reports relative to health, safety, and environment.

Education

  • Requires a knowledge of industrial hygiene and occupational health and safety, ergonomic principles, and economic principles.
  • Requires a knowledge of environmental or engineering sciences to develop, coordinate, and implement safety and management systems, safety and environmental regulation and the applicable safety and environmental programs.
  • Requires a knowledge of technical and report writing and oral expression to prepare various reports, articles, and presentations.  This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of a post secondary education program.

Experience

  • Requires an understanding of the systems, programs, and health, safety, and environmental management techniques.
  • Requires experience in the use of analytical techniques and equipment pertinent to environmental and safety issues to assist in special projects or studies and the production of relevent procedures and policies.
  • Requires an understanding of the application of health, safety, and environmental policies and the Acts and Regulations pertinent to safety.
  • Requires experience in various software applications to produce reports.  A period of over two years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
