Training Coordinator

To coordinate and supervise Training workgroup and related functions including training and curriculum design, development, assessment, evaluation and delivery. 


  • Awareness of Indigenous culture;
  • Post-secondary education in Social Science, or related discipline combined with 3 – 5 years of instructional or training facilitation experience;
  • 2 years’ experience in training and curriculum analysis and design;
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in staff  coordination;
  • Experience working within an Indigenous community;
  • Knowledge of curriculum and training design;
  • Experience in project coordination and program reporting;
  • Strong knowledge and sensitivity to Indigenous issues, communities, values, traditions, cultural norms and practices;
  • Awareness of trauma-informed approaches within an Indigenous cultural context;
  • Must have strong oral communication/public speaking skills;
  • Criminal Reference Clearance (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance are requirements of the employment offer.

Job Description

Employed by the OFIFC, responsible to the policies and directions as determined by the Board of Directors and under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, or designate.  Daily supervision is designated to the Training Director.


Primary Objective:

To coordinate the activities of the Training workgroup and related functions including training and curriculum design, development, assessment, evaluation and delivery.

Work Environment:

Works in a safe and suitable office environment exposed to mid to high-level computer use often faced with tight simultaneous deadlines.  Required to stand for longer than normal periods to deliver training and facilitate workshops.

Working Hours:

Overtime required during peak periods and when workload necessitates.  Travel to Friendship Centres/Delivery Sites/travel venues on average 2 days per month for the purposes of training and co-training. 



To coordinate the development and delivery of the training ensuring all processes are aligned with OFIFC’s long-range strategic plan.

  • Coordinates OFIFC’s training activities as directed by the Training Director

Key Contacts/Relationships:


Primarily communicates with the Training Director, Trainers, program support staff, Policy Analysts and Research staff for the purposes of exchanging and sharing information, integrating, coordinating and collaborating.


Communicates with Friendship Centres/Delivery Sites, Elders, Traditional Knowledge keepers, workshop participants and facility resources for purposes of training event coordination and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:

Training Coordination (55%):

  • Coordinates and ensures timed training activities are undertaken and delivered;
  • Adjusts and balances assignments of trainer tasks ensuring organisational needs are met includes scheduling of training events and assigning Trainers;
  • Leads special training projects as assigned;
  • Ensures training and program training resources are current and met;
  • Coordinates the delivery of the OFIFC annual training plan;
  • Ensures consistency of OFIFC positions and approaches throughout training development;
  • Coordinates and prepares the preparation of letters, reports, submissions, briefs, research, position papers across the training work group as directed;
  • Assists in the development of policies, frameworks, strategies and resources across the Training work group as directed;

Training Support (40%):

  • Assists in the delivery of training and workshops including training evaluation as directed;
  • Assists in the development of alternate methodologies to improve training processes as they affect Friendship Centres and urban Indigenous people;
  • Promotes recognition of Indigenous culture based initiatives within training and accredited curriculum;
  • Supports the development of proposals;

Other (5%):

  • Collaborates with Program, Research and Policy on training and program initiatives development;
  • Maintains and upgrades professional skills;
  • Promotes a healthy, safe work environment; and
  • Performs other duties, related to the position, as assigned by the Executive Director or designate.
