DMS Application Support Role
With a focus on the Distribution Management System (DMS) platform, provide prompt and efficient technical support to users of applications and databases to ensure the efficient daily operation of distribution operating tools and systems.
Provide after-hours on-call support to Ontario Grid Control Centre (OGCC) Control Room operating/support personnel.
Develop, implement, and maintain OT Operations applications, databases and systems to support business processes and ensure secure, stable operation. Analyze operating requirements, create functional specifications, deploy software, hardware, and communications systems, and integrate operating tools with business processes. Receive, assess, and validate new and revised business requirements and facilitate review by architecture teams. Solicit proposals from internal/external parties to meet business needs.
Develop performance metrics for supported operating tools. Monitor and report on system status and performance. Identify continuous improvement opportunities and facilitate the evolution of existing systems and tools to ensure ongoing performance, stability, and security of Distribution operating tools. Implement enhancements to provide additional functionality, improved reliability/maintainability and problem correction.
Build, maintain, and operate multiple environments for use in development, testing, training, and live/backup production operations.
Develop and manage robust software build processes and troubleshoot issues with configuration files and software binaries.
Setup, configure, and administer software version control tools.
Develop and test interfaces to monitor and control application and system functions.
Build, test and deploy software, database, and display releases.
Monitor vendor software patch notifications, and perform and document regular patch assessments.
Coordinate and implement regular maintenance patches, coordinate and perform annual software patch activities and facilitate required system/application testing.
Ensure systems are operated in accordance with established security practices.
Perform and coordinate software changes, upgrades, user testing, and training.
Coordinate remote and onsite technical support by third-party vendor personnel and facilitate purchase and maintenance of software licenses.
Ensure compliance with quality control procedures and plans, conduct root cause analyses, and identify corrective actions.
Participate in the development of strategic plans and standards.
Plan and execute projects and assist project teams involved in upgrades and enhancements of supported Distribution systems and operating tools.
Work with software vendors and consultants to coordinate and oversee project activities.
Develop close customer relationships to identify potential improvements to existing systems and new system requirements.
Act as a mentor to peers to advance their learning and facilitate their professional development.
Perform other duties as required.
Familiarity with OGCC Control Room operations and processes and knowledge of the DMS platform.
Broad technical knowledge of power system OT assets, use, connectivity, and asset management using life-cycle management methodologies.
Knowledge of databases and experience with data analysis and report preparation.
Advanced knowledge of computer technology and equipment configurations, operating systems and application programming to develop, support, troubleshoot, and optimize system-level software and scripts.
Experience developing software using various programming and scripting languages.
Experience providing technical support to users of operational software and hardware.
Strong customer service orientation.
Demonstrated ability to provide prompt and effective after-hours on-call support for critical applications.
Demonstrated record of self-motivated behavior and perseverance to accomplish objectives in spite of obstacles.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate work, and work in a team environment.
Professional level of oral and written communication skills.
Requires 4-year university degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
Ability to develop cooperative relationships while interacting with others.
Ability to use keen investigative, analytical and decision-making skills.
Self-motivated, proactive, and innovative.
Desire to assist others and meet their needs.
Ability to work in cross-functional teams.
