The Office of the Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth (the Advocate’s Office) is seeking new young people who will help develop a formal Advisory Process for the Office.

The Advisory Process will be a structure to provide young people the opportunity to  give advice to the Office on its operation and activities, and help shape the manner in which other young people will give advice to the Office moving forward.

We are looking for:

  • People who feel comfortable identifying themselves as a “young person”;
  • People who have lived experience in an area of our mandate (child welfare, youth justice, mental health, special needs, First Nations, Provincial and Demonstration Schools);
  • People who have an affinity (know about our role and work) with our Office;
  • People who enjoy discussing ideas and listening to others in a way that creates;
  • People who have the ability, opportunity and willingness to listen to other young people about ideas, and bring those ideas forward.

Young people involved will be expected to make a commitment for 1 year and attend  a maximum of six meetings. Honorariums will be provided, and travel and accommodation to the location of meetings will also be provided (if necessary).

If you are interested in participating in the Young People’s Advisory Process, please send an email to Kathy Mah at kathy.mah@provincialadvocate.on.ca and explain how you would be able to assist the Office in this endeavour!

In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, upon request, accommodation will be provided by the Advocate’s Office throughout the selection and/or assessment process to applicants with disabilities.

The Advocate’s Office is committed to building an organization that reflects the diversity of the province. We encourage applications from individuals who represent a diversity of backgrounds, cultures and communities.

While we appreciate all applications, only those candidates selected to participate will be contacted.  We thank all applicants for their submissions.
