Grand Council Chief Glen Hare is encouraging all citizens of the Anishinabek Nation to get informed and vote in this year’s federal election.

Advance polls are open through Oct. 14, with election day scheduled for Oct. 21.

“Although we have to work with all the parties, the Anishinabek Nation citizens should have a strategic vote,” Hare said in a statement.

“It is important to realize we have to work with whoever is in power. We all look forward to the day when Canada respects a nation-to-nation relationship with us. Until then, we must cast a ballot. Get out and vote, take family with you, take someone who hasn’t voted before and vote.”

Those who have not received their voter cards are asked to check with Elections Canada to confirm they are registered to vote. Changes can be made until Oct. 14.
