Caldwells have right to spend settlement money as they wish – Chatham Daily News

Members of the Caldwell First Nation angered over the findings of forensic audit regarding how finances and a video contract for a powwow were handled by members of band council, won’t see any intervention by the federal government.

And nor should they, according to Glenn Forrest, whose financial background includes 25 years experience working with First Nations.

Forrest, who is a member of a First Nation outside the region, contacted The Chatham Daily News regarding the story about a forensic audit report on the 2016 pow wow organized by the Caldwell First Nation to celebrate a $105-million land claim settlement with the federal government.

“These funds are provided for Caldwell First Nation to do as they want, without any interference or accountability to the Government of Canada or anyone else outside the Nation,” Forrest said of the settlement.
