Carleton University to Host Great Grads Celebration

Carleton University will recognize the successes and contributions of its graduates at its “Great Grads, Good Deeds: We’re Here for Good” celebration. This event is an opportunity to reflect on Carleton’s tradition of service and commitment to the community that has made our city, nation and world a better place. The reception is part of Carleton’s Throwback celebrations.

When: Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Atrium, Richcraft Building, Carleton University

The event will feature short, dynamic presentations by a roster of inspiring alumni and special guests. They will share their stories of doing good and offer examples of disruptions that are helping to build a more prosperous and creative world.

Presentation themes include next-generation journalism, Indigenous art, experiential learning and countering radicalization, mining and social change, next-generation social commerce and other inspirational topics.

Presentations will be delivered by the following Carleton community members:

  • Alastair J.S. Summerlee, interim president and vice-chancellor, Carleton University
  • Christopher Braeuel, (MA/00), executive director of Veterinarians without Borders and 2017 Humanitarian Award Recipient
  • Mehdi Hakimi, (BAHons/09), executive director at Stanford Law School, and 2017 Young Alumni Award Recipient
  • Victoria Henry, (MA/93), chair of the Hnatyshyn Foundation
  • Jingming Li, (MEng/83), entrepreneur, adviser, investor
  • Nik Nanos, vice-chair of Carleton University’s Board of Governors and president and chief executive officer of Nanos Research
  • Mark O’Dea, (BSc/89), chairman and founder of Oxygen Capital
  • Deborah Tunis, (BJ/73), special co-ordinator for Syrian Refugee Resettlement at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
