City leaders offer condolences to family and friends and Fort William First Nation community.

FORT WILLIAM FIRST NATION — A long-time Fort William First Nation band councillor has died.

Leo (Jiggs) Bannon Sr., who had served as a councillor for multiple terms since 1974, passed away earlier this week.

In a news release, City of Thunder Bay officials said Mayor Bill Mauro and city council extend condolences to the family and friends of Bannon and the residents of Fort William First Nation. A letter from Mauro and city council will be sent to Fort William First Nation Chief Peter Collins to pay respect.

Flags at city hall and city facilities will fly at half mast until after the funeral.
