With just two days left on the parliamentary calendar before the Chamber powers down for the holidays — which, it’s worth noting, could even happen this evening if MPs can unanimously agree to wrap up regular programming a day ahead of schedule — the Conservatives will get one more chance to convince their Commons colleagues to back their proposed response to the speech from the throne.

That motion — which stands in the name of Conservative leader Andrew Scheer and would add three lengthy paragraphs to the boilerplate laying out his party’s ongoing concerns over the state of the economy, the government’s foreign policy and what they’re billing as a “national unity crisis” — will undergo a final day of debate before being put to a vote during which all indicators suggest it will ultimately go down to defeat.
