After descending on the precinct yesterday, Liberal MPs are set to kick off a full day of intensive in camera pre-sitting discussions with an open-to-media on-stage appearance by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who, as per his public itinerary, will rally his 155-member team with “brief remarks” before the veil of caucus secrecy falls over the ensuing proceedings.

While it’s unlikely that Trudeau will provide any new details on his government’s legislative to-do list — he’s already made it clear that the first order of business will be securing the necessary House sign-off to ratify the new North American free trade deal, with the planned rewrite of the laws governing medically assisted suicide also expected to be at the top of the priority list, given the looming Quebec court deadline — his tone and choice of phrasing may nevertheless offer a preview of how he intends to negotiate the passage of mission-critical initiatives through the minority House.
