KENORA, ON, May 25, 2020 – Confederation College’s Lake of the Woods Campus recently distributed its annual awards and bursaries to recipients from the 2019-20 academic year. Twelve students across seven programs received financial bursaries totaling $14,555 and 16 students received letters of First Class Standing (see list of recipients).

The bursaries came from a number of sources including the Student Union of Confederation College Inc., the annual Kenora Golf Tournamen and other College supporters, with some bursaries being memorial awards.

The letter of First Class Standing acknowledges academic achievement with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and is awarded based on the fall 2019 semester.

“We are exceptionally proud to celebrate the accomplishments of our students this year,” said Laura Christie, Director of the Lake of the Woods Campus. “This recognition acknowledges their hard work and academic achievements, while serving as inspiration for them to continue their efforts in the pursuit of their goals. The funding students receive goes a long way in relieving some of the financial pressures of going to school, enabling them to better focus on their studies.”

Student recipient Vanessa Devion, soon graduating from the Social Service Worker program, shared her appreciation for the support. “Thank you to all the donors who generously support Confederation College students through scholarships and bursaries,” she said. “These awards are life changing for the students who receive them. As a recipient, I am grateful for the financial support that has allowed me to graduate from the Social Service Worker program and pursue my dream of helping others within our wonderful community. Without the support of these donors, this educational journey would not have been feasible for me.”

Christie echoed her gratitude for the ongoing and generous support the College receives from donors. “Strong financial support and community relationships are paramount to the success of the scholarship, bursary and awards program at Confederation College. The generous contributions from donors help to ensure that students who require financial assistance can put their dreams to work and get the support they need. Thank you to all who help advance student success by donating to this program.”
