Masinaadesjigan: Oshkaatisak Kikinohamaakan and Waniska Film Viewing
March 2, 2020
Join us at Confederation College for Masinaadesjigan which means “to watch a movie” in Anishinaabemowin. On March 27, 2020 at 11:00 am, we will be playing two films: Oshkaatisak Kikinohamaakewin and Waniska. Oshkaatisak Kikinohamaakewin means “teaching youth” in Anishinaabemowin and Waniska means “to awaken” in Cree.
Both of these films interview Elders and teachers who work in the classroom and on the land teaching students about Indigenous Language Knowledge Systems. The film is inspiring and exemplary of the methods of education which we should be expanding our minds and institutions to include. The films will be introduced by Confederation College’s Anishinaabemowin teacher Bruce Beardy and Elder Beatrice Twance-Hynes.
Tea and bannock will follow in Apiwin. This event has been brought to the college by the Paterson Library, OASA, CPRIL and Student Success. If you have any questions please feel free to call Tiffany Miller, Indigenous Library Liaison: (807) 475-6515.
