It was revealed on Thursday that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s mother, wife and brother were paid a combined hundreds of thousands of dollars by the WE organization over the last half decade to give 30-plus speeches.

WE — which includes WE Charity and the ME to WE Social Enterprise, a for-profit-arm tied to the charity — says it paid Margaret Trudeau $312,000 for 28 events, Alexandre Trudeau $40,000 for eight engagements, and Sophie Gregoire Trudeau $1,400 for one event in 2012.

The crux of the issue is that the Trudeau government recently handed WE Charity the reins of its Canada Student Service Grant program. It was going to be paid almost $20 million to administer more than $900-million in grants to young volunteers over this summer and fall. WE Charity has since backed out of the program. Trudeau is also now under investigation for what could be his third breach of ethics law.
