Fellow Atlantic Canada MP Seamus O’Regan, a close confidant of the prime minister, was tapped to succeed Indigenous Services Minister Jane Philpott.

RIDEAU HALL—Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday morning unveiled a handful of changes to his cabinet, including creating a new post responsible for overseeing the concerns of rural voters.

Nova Scotia MP Bernadette Jordan (South Shore-St. Margarets, N.S.), a rookie who represents one of the largest rural ridings has been tapped to serve as minister for rural economic development.

Fellow Atlantic Canada MP Seamus O’Regan (St. John’s South-Mount Pearl, N.L.), a close confidant of the prime minister, was tapped to succeed Indigenous Services Minister Jane Philpott (Markham-Stouffville, Ont.). Ms. Philpott has been appointed to oversee the Treasury Board, formerly held by Scott Brison (Kings-Hants, N.S.), whose resignation triggered the minor cabinet shuffle.
