St. Lawrence College unveils brand-new Student Life and Innovation Centre
KINGSTON – St. Lawrence College will host a grand opening of the brand-new Student Life and Innovation Centre and the Centre for Behavioural Studies on Friday, November 23. The grand opening is the culmination of the Hello Future Capital Project, the largest expansion and renewal project in the history of St. Lawrence College’s Kingston campus.
Media and members of the community are invited to join St. Lawrence College (SLC) students and staff for the grand opening celebration. Attendees can tour the new buildings and enjoy food and refreshments between 11:00am and 3:00pm. An official opening ceremony will take place at 3:00pm in the new gymnasium, followed by the SLC Vikings women’s and men’s varsity basketball teams taking on the Centennial Colts in two back-to-back games.
The Hello Future Capital Project, estimated to cost $42-million, saw SLC’s Kingston campus undergo extensive revitalization and expansion in four stages over the span of nearly two years. The new Student Life and Innovation Centre is an 80,000-square-foot building with space for students to study, collaborate, and socialize. The new building features a double gymnasium and fitness facilities, the licensed St. Larry’s Pub, a large venue space, specialized learning spaces for Fitness and Health Promotion and Music and Digital Media, and the Indigenous Centre. In addition to the new building, the Kingston campus saw a revitalization of more than 22,000-square-feet of existing space, including Davies Hall, student services, the Innovation Hub, and Health Care Simulation Labs.
The historically designated Newcourt House, built in 1842, was renovated and redeveloped to create a permanent home for the Centre for Behavioural Studies, a hub for researchers, faculty, students, behaviour analysts and community service providers to work together to advance the science of behaviour analysis.
“One of our core values at SLC is to put our students first, and this is a very tangible example of our college’s commitment to provide students with the resources they need to succeed. These new facilities will benefit current students and our future students for generations to come,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College. “Not only is the grand opening event a chance to celebrate, but it is a chance to thank our students and community for their support in making the Hello Future Capital Project a reality.”
