JOB SUMMARY: The Animal Control Officer Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Program Supervisor- Community Health & Wellness.

PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

To assist the Animal Control team in the performance of operational duties in regard to animal control, animal welfare, shelter care and maintenance, prevention and promotion as it relates to Six Nations of the Grand River Community’s health and wellbeing.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Animal control services field experience an asset
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Six Nations community or other Indigenous communities and understanding of importance of culture as foundation
  • Good communication and time-management skills
  • Knowledge of animal behaviour an asset
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality, able to work with tact and discretion
  • Must have a valid Class “G” driver’s license and reliable transportation

Other Related Skills:

  • Must possess a knowledge of the Six Nations community, its culture and traditions, and various service agencies
  • Strong organizational skills and, able to work independently and work cooperatively with other service providers
  • Knowledge of surrounding SPCA, Rescue Centre, Animal Welfare agencies is an asset
  • Strong organizational skills and, able to work independently and work cooperatively with other service providers
  • Ability to maintain compassion with animals
  • High level of computer skills – Microsoft Office – MS Word and Excel
  • Must have criminal record check
