The Wikwemikong Unceded Territory’s Public Works Department is accepting applications for an Animal Control Supervisor. Managing the animal control unit, the supervisor enforces the Dog and Cat control by-law in response to band member concerns relevant to the nuisance of uncontrolled animals within Wiikwemkoong. The program will be under the direct management and supervision of the Public Works Manager. The successful applicant is to exercise a high degree of independent action, judgement, competence, and initiative.
Job Duties
- Supervises the day-to-day operation of staff including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing work.
- Supervises program delivery to ensure compliance with by-laws.
- Liaises with all interested parties and council to address community needs and deliver program and services.
- Direct Animal Control officer of any lost, homeless, and dangerous animals.
- Ensure care to animals at the Animal Shelter and properly tagged for identification.
- Compile, collate and evaluate statistical data for program tracking and quality assurance.
- Deliver tools and strategies, such as education and responsible pet ownership to community members.
- Assists manager in effective planning, implementation, and delivery of animal services.
- Respond to citizen complaints concerning stray domestic animals, livestock, and wildlife.
- Supervises, motivates and trains assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality.
- Public education on animal care and husbandry, veterinary needs, laws pertaining to animals.
Qualifications
- A combination of work experience and education will be considered.
- Preference given to Health, Veterinary Technology, Police Foundation Graduates, or a related field.
- Experience working in an Animal Shelter, Veterinary Clinic and/or enforcement environment.
- Experience delivering animal services and management of animal facilities and operations.
- Valid Class “G” driver’s license with access to transportation.
- Must be willing to immunized against rabies and willing to have a rabies titer taken every two years and, if needed, receive booster vaccinations against rabies.
