Assistant Accounts Payable Manager

Summary

The Wiikwemkoong Co-ordinated Financial Services Unit is seeking applications from qualified individuals to apply for the position of Assistant Accounts Payable Manager. Working under the supervision of the Accounts Payable Manager, the Assistant Accounts Payable Manager will assist the manager with planning and developing methods and procedures for implementing within the AP department.

Job Duties

  • Maintains accounts payable records and responsible for the computerized accounting system;
  • Ensures all source documents are accurate, complete, and have necessary approval before processing.
  • Ensures staff travel documents are complete issuing travel advances based on authorized and approved forms;
  • Ensures accounts payable cheques performed bi-weekly with payments issued on time;
  • Receive incoming invoices from suppliers verifying information and updating AP records;
  • Formulates procedures for systematic retention, protection, retrieval, transfer, and disposal of records;
  • Evaluates current procedures and practices for accomplishing activities and functions of department to develop and implement alternate methods designed for improvement of work;
  • Ensures the timely completion of reports, records, and other documentation; and,
  • Oversees hiring/succession planning assessing staffing requirements, filling positions with qualified candidates;
  • Ensures that all AP employees are well-informed of accounting policies, procedures, and regulations;
  • Provides training and development needs with assistance and support as needed;
  • Conducts performance appraisals with measurable feedback and suggestions for improved performance; and,
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Band Finance Manager and / or the Director of Finance.

Requirements

  • Postsecondary education in bookkeeping/accounting but degree in accounting, finance or business is preferred;
  • Three years previous related experience required;
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, experience using Microsoft Word, knowledge of Sage 300 accounting software and / or experience using financial software;
  • Familiarity with basic bookkeeping procedures;
  • Excellent leadership and human relations abilities;
  • Ability to prepare and make comprehensive presentations in meetings; and,
  • Ability to communicate with personnel at all levels, band membership in person and over the telephone, Chief and Council, and accounting, legal, government, banking professionals.
