ONWA MANDATE:

The Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) is a not for profit organization that empowers and supports Indigenous women and their families in the province of Ontario.  ONWA encourages the participation of Indigenous women in the development of Federal, Provincial, Municipal/Local government policies that impact their lives and ensure issues affecting Indigenous women and their families are heard at key government tables.

SCOPE:

The Parenting Across the Life Cycle Development Coordinator will focus on the development of a parenting program, spanning the lifecycle from infant, to child, to youth and beyond. The Parenting Across the Life Cycle Development Coordinator will support a wholistic approach ensuring Indigenous women and their families are in the driver’s seat, and are meaningfully engaged to use their voices to co-develop a parenting program that encompasses parenting skills This position will facilitate the BFFV Parenting Program Worker training and education and co-develop trauma informed resources and supports as well as develop a Parenting Program Manual that will focus on the development of parenting skills for all ages including the process of reunification.

The Development Coordinator will coordinate, build capacity, and support the Breaking Free from Family Violence Support Workers to ensure effective services are provided to Indigenous women and their families, in a culturally rooted, holistic way, to assist them in navigating through the complex systems encountered when experiencing violence and when involved in child welfare matters.  The programs intentions are to fill the distinct gaps and work to meet the unique needs identified by Indigenous women, families, and communities throughout the province in the areas of child welfare, supporting parenting skills across the lifecycle, and addressing family violence using a wholistic and Indigenous gender-based approach (I-GBA+) to reduce the number of Indigenous children in care through consistent investment in Indigenous community-based preventative programs and services

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Women’s Studies with a minimum three (3) years’ work experience in community service delivery in a project coordination role.
  • Demonstrated experience providing services to Indigenous families and/or communities.
  • Extensive knowledge and working experience on issues related to Child Welfare Systems and Violence Against Indigenous Women Sectors and child development.
  • Strong awareness of issues affecting Indigenous women and their families and awareness of Community resources provincially.
  • Strong communicator – with excellent written, oral, and facilitation skills.
  • Solution oriented with proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of and relationships with other service agencies, ability to network and create/maintain these relationships.
  • Experience coordinating workshops, engagements and/or conferences.
  • Experience with resource development and implementation.
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction and improve performance through management feedback.
  • Capacity to solve problems and to see different perspectives.
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to plan and follow through on assigned duties independently with strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Not-For Profit Organizations
  • Proficient working knowledge of MS Office Software, internet, and general office equipment.
  • Ability to travel when required.
  • Reliable vehicle, appropriate vehicle insurance coverage and valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license.
  • Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
  • A cellular phone and internet access is required within this position
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
  • ONWA is committed on implementing measures to protect its community members, staff, and other stakeholders from COVID-19. As a result, ONWA has implemented a mandatory vaccination policy. Exemptions will be made for those with a valid medical exemption; proof of the exemption will be required.

  • Gender-Based Analysis Informed – Understands to incorporate an intersectional approach to gender, race and discrimination and subsequent intergenerational impacts affecting Indigenous women and their families.
  • Trauma-Based Practice Informed – Understands to incorporate a trauma-informed approach to recognize and respond to all forms of trauma and the necessity of supporting Indigenous women in a culture of tradition and safety in her healing journey.
  • She is Wise Leadership Informed – Understands to incorporate the Four Agreements within daily responsibilities and combined with ONWA’s cultural teachings contribute to the empowerment and leadership of Indigenous women within their communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES – SPECIFIC:

  1. Coordinate and implement office administrative procedures.
  2. Carry out administrative activities associated with the position.
  3. Assemble data and prepare periodic and special reports, manuals and correspondence as required.
  4. Provide direct assistance to support staff to increase and maintain capacity and competence in service delivery, program administration and reporting.
  5. Provide orientation and training to new program employees and facilitate or provide ongoing professional development.
  6. Report to and collaborate with the ONWA Management team to successfully implement the program.
  7. Develop a Parenting Program Manual that will focus on developing parenting skills for all ages and the process of reunification.
  8. Facilitate the BFFV Parenting Program Worker training and education
  9. Co-develop trauma informed resources and supports.
  10. Assist with set up and build capacity in site offices.
  11. Design and finalize data collection, reporting and accountability processes including the performance measurement plan.
  12. Collect, compile, and analyze program and Community Member data from Family Support Workers.
  1. Work within a designated budget.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES – ADMINISTRATIVE:

  1. Complete monthly reports and submit to supervisor when required.
  2. Complete quarterly reports on or before the requested due date.
  3. Complete reports to funders as required.
  4. Complete and attend supervisions on a regular basis.
  5. Other reports or admin as assigned.

  1. Promote the program within the community.
  2. To adhere to professionalism in always representing the organization and maintain good communications.

  2. Representation on committees as required for the enhancement and benefits of ONWA’s programs.
  3. To network and promote ONWA and all ONWA related programs. Maintain good communication.

  6. Attendance and conduct at work according to the requirements of the Association’s Personnel Policy.
