The primary role of this position is to develop, manage, and deliver Express Scripts Canada pharmacy benefit management services and programs, specifically to provide telephonic education to patients and caregivers following the Clinical Protocols and work within the pharmacist scope of practice and guidelines. This role is also required to manage and support the Prior Authorization Program and Advocate Services, with an overall goal to educate and guide patients through the reimbursement landscape to optimize drug coverage and ensure holistic care is planned and offered to patients.


  • Collect clinical data, perform clinical assessment and provide disease and drug specific education to the patient and caregiver. The Clinician is responsible for documenting the assessment and any clinical intervention according to the Clinical program and pharmacist scope of practice and guidelines.
  • Manage Prior Authorization program and review Prior Authorization requests, including  gathering patient’s medical information and communicating with patients, physicians or pharmacists as required.
  • Manage reimbursement related issues for patients requiring specialty medications. Act as the patient advocate and work closely with patients to navigate and secure potential sources of reimbursement
  • Participate in the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee and educate stakeholders in internal Pharmacy Operations
  • Support the implementation, communication, education and maintenance of new and existing clinical programs and formularies.
  • Provide insights on pharmacy practice and legislations to internal and external customers.
  • Attend customer meetings and conferences as required.
  • Ensure accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of patient status within the operations systems. Comply to ESC policies and procedures to safeguard personal information (PI) and personal health information (PHI).


  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in direct patient care, drug evaluation, and/or drug information activities; Specialty Pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite of tools, with database experience a plus
  • License to practice Pharmacy in Ontario
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset


  • Knowledge and experience in the areas of Neurology /Multiple sclerosis, Rheumatology, Dermatology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, or Oncology.
  • Knowledge of the private/public drug reimbursement or managed care experience would be considered an asset
  • Able to work independently and within a team
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, detail orientation and the ability to adapt in a dynamic fast paced work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and tactfully
  • Good phone etiquette and previous telephonic clinician work experience is preferred.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve issues effectively and efficiently
  • Superb organizational, planning, and leadership skills
