Communications Coordinator: Women’s Initiatives
COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR: WOMEN’S INITIATIVES
The Women’s Initiatives sector within the Chiefs of Ontario secretariat is now accepting applicants for a Communications Coordinator. The incumbent will work directly with the Women’s Initiatives team to plan and develop communications plans for the sector’s priorities and projects.
LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario (with the option to work from a home office)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acquire and maintain a detailed knowledge of the Chiefs of Ontario policies, principles, and strategies, and keep up-to-date with relevant developments.
- Work with Women’s Initiatives team to form content ideas in line with the COO.
- Develop and implement a Women’s Initiatives communication plan that includes media outreach and social media content creation.
- When required, will research and write press releases, and content for the COO website, infographics, blogs, fundraising campaigns, program literature and newsletters.
- Works with the Women’s Initiatives team in developing evaluation forms and questionnaires.
- Gathers and monitors evaluation feedback via on-line applications and social media; and write an analysis of feedback.
- Attends Women’s Initiative meetings to gain an understanding of First Nations stakeholders and perspectives.
- Attends, records and disseminates meeting minutes as per director’s request.
- Present and evaluate results of communication plan with the team.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external communications’ key players.
- Outreach: arranges, coordinates and plans events highlighting the Women’s Initiatives special projects.
- Works as a team member in completing tasks in other areas of Women’s Initiatives priorities as assigned.
RELEVANT SKILLS:
- Post-secondary degree in related field: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous work in the communications field.
- Experience with social media, press releases, and media relations;
- Knowledge of First Nation traditions, cultures and values, and an understanding of the history and relationship between First Nations and the Crown;
- Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal.
- Capacity to work effectively independently and as a member of a team to complete assigned tasks and projects; and must be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
DURATION: May 2022- March 31 2023 (with the potential for renewal based on funding)
