Express Scripts Canada is looking for a Database Architect to be part of the Infrastructure Strategy and Operations (ISO) team. The primary objective of the Database Architect will be to be a technical lead for ISO team working closely with Business stakeholders, Project Managers, IS Management to understand processes, business requirements and translate them into Database technology solutions.

The Database Architect role requires ability to create and analyze solutions based on business value while maintaining best design/development practices, procedures and guidelines throughout the Infrastructure Operations lifecycle.

Furthermore, the Database Architect acts as a subject matter expert in different Databases on various platforms, has the ability to perform end-to-end impact analysis of source system changes, capacity planning, performance tuning and troubleshooting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead the Database design, conversion, migration, performance and capacity planning practice by defining and building the framework and standards, and delivering the related services
  • Work closely with Infrastructure team members, Project Managers, Software Development and Business Analysts to ensure successful delivery of Steady State for all projects and initiatives
  • Manage performance issues in all custom code released to production for optimal performance
  • Work closely with Technical Leads from other departments to ensure comprehensive solution design, and test plans according to business specifications and ensure that defects and fixes across prioritized systems are documented, tracked and closed
  • Evaluate change management requests to determine optimum testing process for the degree of change being implemented; including Time & Cost estimation with Impact analysis
  • Aid in the support/writing of Perl, OS (Shell, PowerShell) and PL/SQL scripts written to both monitor and maintain the Databases and support applications
  • Define Database architectures to be implemented uniformly across Production and Non-Production environments
  • Ability to provide after-hours Database support and guidance as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, information systems or computer engineering
    • 8+ years of Database experience in Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL (MariaDB), MongoDB – with emphasis on Oracle, PostgreSQL
    • Comfortable with databases running in RedHat Linux, Windows environments;
    • Extensive experience with high volume transaction systems in a 3-tier architecture
    • Strong experience with highly available configurations (RAC), replication (DR), data migration scenarios, PI/PHI data de-identification
    • Familiar with adjacent technologies and products: GoldenGate, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle Data Integrator (ETL), Advanced Security, Auditing databases, Oracle Wallet, Erwin or PowerDesigner
    • Prior exposure to performance and administration of SAN and NAS systems (NetApp Storage):
      LUN provisioning, FC, cloning/snapshotting
      Good knowledge of Security, certificates, shell scripting
    • Substantial experience with RHEL / CentOS, including hardware components (CPU, RAM, OS activity info), performance tuning
    • Good knowledge of Virtual Machines, including VMware specifics regarding database deployments in VMs, performance matters, constraints, benefits
    • Sound knowledge of networks, VLANs, subnets, firewalls, load balancers, Virtual IP addresses, DNS
    • Working experience in using capacity planning for cost-effective strategies to plan and design, for temporary scenarios and to meet long-term needs

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of Database structures, theories, principles, and practices;
  • Proficient in scripting tools for automation, monitoring and tuning
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle products and technologies: Database, ASM, Data Warehouse, and associated products (OEM, GG, ODI)
  • Good understanding of middleware products and technologies: Oracle BI, Oracle WebLogic, including HA configurations
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, a self-starting attitude and presentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate across multiple levels within the organization: Management, Production Operations, IT, Systems Administration, etc.
  • Prior exposure to the Health Care business is an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of backup and recovery scenarios
  • Be able to provide a strategic Database direction for the organization
  • Hands-On Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (including MS Project, MS Power Point, Visio)
  • Flexible and adaptable to working additional hours and/or overtime
  • Occasional travel to Montreal and/or within the GTA
