- Responsible for the analysis, interpretation and distribution of various classes of traffic data (volume, collisions) under the supervision of the Supervisor, Data Collection and Analysis.
- Prepares diagrams, flow maps, graphs, charts, for statistical reports and leaflets.
- Enters, edits, updates, validates, and analyzes traffic volume and collision data.
- Performs and/or checks manual and computerized calculations.
- Analyzes traffic volume data to determine trend changes.
- Performs administrative and processing activities as required, such as updating computerized and manual records, maintaining and updating files, and inventory of all turning movement counts and automatic traffic counts.
- Investigates and responds to inquiries from the public, politicians, contractors, other municipalities, businesses, 311, and City staff.
- Reviews and evaluates reports of traffic statistics and/or damage claims to city property.
- Assists and liaises with consultants, computer application specialists, and contractors concerning the maintenance and enhancements of in-house traffic applications.
- Reviews, evaluates and reports on acceptance testing of new enhancements and upgrades.
- Receives payment for traffic data from external clients and issues statements.
- Maintains inventory of all requests using the in-house tracking system in a timely manner.
- Manipulates and retrieves data using Microsoft Excel, Access, and ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MapInfo and / or any other mapping (GIS) software.
- Prepare presentations to stakeholders on collision/volumn statistics using PowerPoint and/or desktop presentation package (i.e. Visio)
- Performs other related work and specific projects as assigned.
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Successful completion of a Secondary School diploma or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable experience in engineering technology, specifically in the principles and practices of traffic engineering.
- Experience utilizing MS Office software applications including proficiency in word processing, excel, the internet, and relational databases.
- Experience using various GIS and CAD Software packages such as Arcview, Mapinfo, DesignCad.
- Required to possess a Class “G” Driver’s License, valid in the Province of Ontario, and be able to maintain the same.
You must also have:
- Highly developed analytical and diagnostic skills, with the ability to perform manual and computerized calculations in a traffic engineering environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to resolve customer issues, conflicts and complaints in-person, by telephone and through written correspondence.
- Ability to make sound decisions using good judgement
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
- Considerable knowledge of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
- Ability to use computer software such as spreadsheet, database and word processing programs.
- Ability to effectively organize records and data and to prepare sound technical reports and specifications.
- Knowledge of the City of Toronto road system and City of Toronto Uniform Traffic By-laws.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, organize.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
- Eligibility for membership in the Ontario Association of Engineering, Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) will be an asset.
