As Queen’s enters an exciting and bold chapter of its storied existence, it is in search of its next Executive Director, Government Relations– a key member and colleague of the university relations team, playing a pivotal leadership role in shaping and elevating Queen’s today and in the future.

Reporting to the Vice Principal, University Relations (VPUR), the Executive Director, Government Relations (GR) drives, develops and executes Queen’s government relations strategy at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels. The Executive Director supports government relations activities for the Principal, the VPUR, and the university’s senior administrators, and provides a comprehensive approach to identifying and influencing key advocacy, policy and funding issues and strategies (i.e. research, infrastructure, student experience, etc.). Guiding and directing the government relations team, the Executive Director ensures their activities align with the public and government interests and Queen’s overarching mission and strategic priorities. Additionally, the Executive Director works with the University’s executive team, Deans and senior administrators, providing leadership, counsel and a comprehensive approach to identifying and influencing public policy.

As the ideal candidate, you have extensive experience navigating both the provincial and federal levels of government in a similarly complex, multi-stakeholder environment. You are a strategic, collaborative leader, and a proven relationship-builder with government decision-makers, influencers, partners, stakeholders, and other key audiences. An exceptional communicator, you understand how to translate the needs of an academic institution in a way that resonates at all levels of government. Your understanding of public policy within a multi-level government environment is an asset, as is your experience with the post-secondary sector. You hold a relevant degree (preferably graduate) and a minimum of 8-10 years experience covering a full range of government relations activities.
