Reporting to the Chair of CRSP the Project Co-ordinator oversees the day-to-day activities of the Centre for Research on Security Practices (CRSP) based in the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences on the Brantford campus of Wilfrid Laurier University. The primary role of the Project Co-ordinator is to oversee the management of CRSP project, identify research priorities and goals, develop and execute implementation plans, and mobilize resources to meet the immediate and long-term goals of CRSP. The Project Co-ordinator is responsible for CRSP communications (such as CRSP quarterly newsletter, research spotlight stories and research summaries), budget management, project timelines and deliverables, event coordinator and the successful execution of research activities across various projects undertaken by CRSP members. The incumbent will assist in all phases of research projects from ethics prepartions, budget management, data collection and analyses, to report writing, and dissemination.
- Identify research priorities of CRSP and develop short, medium, and long-term goals and workplans
- Anticipate and mobilize resources needed to support the goals of CRSP such as identifying and seeking external research funding and hiring student RAs
- Facilitate the preparation and submission of external research funding applications (e.g. SSHRC, provincial Ministry competitions, international funding opportunities)
- Create operating budgets for various projects undertaken by CRSP
- Develop and implement protocols and best practices for all phases of a research study such as participant recruitment, data collection, data analyses, report writing, and dissemination
- Design and pilot test data collection instruments such as interview guides, questionnaires, and technology-driven methods (e.g. GPS, user-prompt programs)
- Prepare university REB applications, funder annual progress reports, and other necessary documentation to facilitate research activities
- Oversee the progress of research activities, in pursuit of meeting CRSP medium and long-term goals, by maintaining research and administrative processes, assist with ethics applications, coordinate data collection efforts, anticipate and problem-solve difficulties to ensure the integrity and completeness of data, and address any team issues promptly.
- Manage finances of CRSP by reconciling projected budgets against actual expenses (e.g. accessing financial information in Laurier’s Millennium and Banner online systems)
- Monitor project progress regularly to ensure projects are completed within allotted timelines and budgets. Work with management to prepare project plan, budget and schedules.
- Create and maintain data bases for the purposes of tracking research activities including participant recruitment, data collection, and data analyses
- Monitor student RAs progress in completing assigned tasks by tracking hours and deliverables
- Maintain the CRSP website and CRSP Talks podcast website
- Hire and train student research assistants in methods, procedures, and protocols necessary to engage in data collection and data analyses
- Supervise student RAs including assigning work, reviewing progress, answering questions, and facilitating access to resources
- Monitor and respond to CRSP emails daily
- Update and monitor CRSP website, newsletters and news stories
- Engage with media to increase the profile of CRSP research
- Interact frequently with faculty, staff, students, research participants, representatives of community organizations, suppliers of goods and services to conduct research activities of CRSP
- Communicate with others in both written and oral formats including research work plans (with students), implementation activities (with external community organizations), MOUs, research charters, webinars, daily correspondence, final research reports, academic journal articles, conference presentations
- Conduct qualitative data collection methods such as individual interviews, focus groups, and other place-based or arts-based methods
- Analyze qualitative research data such as interview transcripts, drawings, journals, and maps using specialized software (e.g. dedoose, NVivo)
- Synthesize research findings into dissemination products such as final research reports, journal articles, and other accessible products
- Graduate degree
- 3+ years previous experience managing university or community-based research projects including goal-setting, work planning, resource allocation, budgeting
- Applied knowledge of research methodologies and ethics in the social sciences
- Demonstrated experience in writing targeted products (e.g. funding applications, peer-reviewed journal articles, final research reports, research ethics applications)
- Supervision of student RAs, small to medium research teams
- Strong analytical abilities to develop innovative solutions to problems
- Organizational skills to develop and maintain research protocols and processes
- Ability to manage multiple competing work priorities and deadlines
- Proficiency in word processing software (e.g. Microsoft Office 365), spreadsheets (e.g. Excel, Googlesheets), video conferencing (e.g. Zoom), specialized data analyses software (e.g. NVivo, dedoose, SPSS)
Position Grade: EX-G
Rate of Pay: $59,516 to $74,395
Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, limited term position up to the duration of 12 months from June 21, 2021 to June 24, 2022. The normal hours per week are 35 hours of work from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
