Regional Health Survey (RHS) Survey Area Leads

You are invited to explore this opportunity to build on your relationships with members of First Nations communities to ensure First Nations research is done with deep respect for and involvement of First Nations. Your role will be to help implement the Regional Health Survey IV (RHS IV) by working with First Nations communities and to help recruit and train Knowledge Gatherers, if needed. You would be the primary contact for the mobile and online survey instruments to ensure timely completion of the RHS IV as directed. There will be preliminary work on the Regional Social Survey.

The RHS Survey Area Leads will be part of the Research and Data Management sector of the Chiefs of Ontario and report to the Senior Lead.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in team meetings
  • Prepare and present to community leadership past survey results for Ontario
  • Prepare and give presentations to selected communities for RHS IV deployment
  • Gather Band Council Resolutions for participating communities
  • Develop and share logistical plans for community, band membership clerks, and community liaisons
  • Train community Knowledge Gatherers on mobile tablet, confidentiality and privacy issues, data collection activities, syncing and other related activities
  • Be available via phone or email for Knowledge Gatherers, community liaisons and community to answer questions
  • Provide coordination, support and assistance to Knowledge Gatherers
  • Follow reporting protocols and maintain all records as required
  • Provide reports to the Senior Lead on survey progress
  • Work with Data Analyst in determining survey vetting

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND PROFESSIONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Education & Experience:

  • Masters or Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in community development, qualitative research or health research
  • Experience working with First Nation communities & community based research projects
  • Experience, knowledge, and awareness of First Nation ways of learning, traditions, cultures, values, health systems and intergenerational impacts of government policies
  • Experience in conducting surveys

Skills:

  • Relationship building and management skills, including excellent listening, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Professional characteristics:

  • Organized, able to work independently AND as a member of a team
  • Trustworthy, reliable, and maintain confidentiality
  • Capacity to work from home in a virtual environment
  • First Nation language use and understanding an asset

Working conditions:

  • Office work and internet use from home
  • Extensive telephone and/or zoom communication with communities and community members
  • Calls, online meetings, and/or travel (pandemic restriction permitting) to team meetings as required
  • Must be available during the day, some evenings and weekends as required
  • Note: Survey work is not scheduled on holidays

Requirements:  

  • Must sign a confidentiality form
  • As per COO policy must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Solid internet and phone connection
  • Must have vehicle and valid Ontario’s driver’s license

Duration:  Sept 2022 to March 31, 2024, on a full-time contract basis based on work performance and funding. COO offers an attractive benefit package and retirement savings plan, extended Christmas Holiday break, and competitive salaries.
