Sexual Violence Awareness Training Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY: The Ontario Native Women’s Association is currently accepting applications for a full time position of Sexual Violence Awareness Training Coordinator in Thunder Bay, ON
The Sexual Violence Awareness Training Coordinator will collect and develop resources, and implement a training program that will be tailoured to educate the sister program (Indigenous Sexual Assault Family Support Worker in Sioux Lookout), as well as front line service providers across the province with their responsibilities in advocating for Indigenous Women and their families. This position will provide front line workers with the education, training and tools to empower and support Indigenous women in a culturally rooted, holistic way, to assist women in healing from their experiences.
The Ending Violence Against Indigenous Women program will utilize a comprehensive approach to addressing violence/ sexual violence against Indigenous Women and their children. It will enhance and provide supports across service areas that are designed to meet the unique needs of Indigenous women who have experienced or are involved with Violence Against Women (VAW) sector. It will provide services to Indigenous women, their children, families, and communities in Northwestern Ontario by trauma informed supports that meet their cultural, mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in Social Work, Indigenous Learning, Women’s Studies with a minimum three (3) years’ work experience in community service delivery.
- Specialized training and proven knowledge of Violence Against Indigenous women sector.
- Proven experience in and knowledge of victims’ issues surrounding sexual assault and violence.
- Strong communicator – excellent written, oral, and facilitation skills.
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
- Experience coordinating workshops and/or conferences.
- Experience with resource development and implementation.
- Knowledge of Train the Trainer model.
- Ability to network with strong partnership building skills. Knowledge of and relationships with other service agencies, ability to network and create/maintain these relationships.
- Awareness of Community Resources provincially.
- Excellent administrative and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in computer programs especially Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to plan ahead define measurable objectives and outcomes and meet objectives in a timely manner.
- Highly motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision and able to meet strict reporting deadlines.
- Capacity to problem solve and to see different perspectives.
- Knowledge and understanding of historical/current issues facing Indigenous Women and their families.
- Experience with project financial management.
- Ability to travel.
- Reliable vehicle, appropriate vehicle insurance coverage and valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license.
- Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
- A cellular phone and internet access is required within this position
- Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.

- She is Wise Leadership Informed – Understands to incorporate the Four Agreements within daily responsibilities and combined with ONWA’s cultural teachings contribute to the empowerment and leadership of Indigenous women within their communities.
- Develop and implement a training program for front line workers.
- Develop and produce workshop manuals for programs and specific workshops on Violence Against Indigenous Women with Key priorities and Outcomes / evaluations.
- Develop resource materials/manuals to support front line workers including program guidelines, booklets or handouts for Indigenous women and their families.
- Develop Workshop procedures to create a safe space for the recipients of the information.
- Facilitate training to staff and provincial organizations various training developed.
- Prepare culturally safe training spaces for Community Members.
- Complete all travel or logistics for each training /workshop.
- Collect existing materials on VAW for use by front line staff so they may share with service providers in the community.
- Ensure all material is rooted in culture and responds to the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of Indigenous Women and their families.
- Teach/inform Indigenous women their rights and responsibilities.
- Proven ability to ensure confidentiality, and show respect, patience and empathy towards Family Support Workers and their Community Members.
- Demonstrate initiative and work within established procedural guidelines as needed, liaise with stakeholders and service providers to provide integrated services and/or pertinent specialized information to enhance program effectiveness and Community Member outcomes.
- Existing connections to and knowledge of local community resources and agencies.
- Conduct an environment scan of existing services, develop and maintain a strong network of service providers for referral purposes in order to provide holistic support to Indigenous women and their families.
- Actively seek funding opportunities to assist in the development of services regarding Violence Against Indigenous Women’s training that will support Indigenous women as identified by the Association.
- Attend staff meetings and staff training as per the Director of Community Development.
- Other duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES – ADMINISTRATIVE:
- Complete monthly and submit to Manager and/or Director when required.
- Complete quarterly reports on or before the requested due date.
- Complete reports to funders as required.
- Complete and attend supervisions with Manager and/or Director on a regular basis.
- Other reports or admin as assigned.
RESPONSIBLITIES– PUBLIC RELATIONS:
- Promote the program within the community.
- To adhere to professionalism in representing the organization at all times and maintain good communications.
EXPECTED STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:
- Adhere to the Policies and Procedures as set by the ONWA.
- Representation on committees as required for the enhancement and benefits of ONWA’s programs.
- To network and promote ONWA and all ONWA related programs. Maintain good communication.

- Attendance and conduct at work according to the requirements of the Association’s Personnel Policy.

The Sexual Violence Awareness Training Coordinator will be directly accountable to Community Development Manager for the proper completion of the functions outlined in the job description.
