Atlohsa Peace Awards Nomination Deadline Extended to Sunday, August 18, 2019
London, ON – It’s not too late to nominate someone who has made a social, cultural or educational contribution in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation. The Atlohsa Peace Awards committee is looking for both Indigenous and non-indigenous people across Ontario who have made difference.
Members of the public are encouraged to visit AtlohsaPeaceAwards.ca to nominate an individual or organization. Nominees must be residents of Ontario.
8 Inspiring individuals will be honoured at the Atlohsa Peace Awards Gala
Honourees will represent the Seven Sacred Teachings of wisdom, love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility and truth + the NEW Rising Star (youth under 18 yrs). The award winners will be honoured at a gala event, to be held November 7, 2019 at London’s RBC Place.
“These awards represent the heart of social change. This is a time for us to come together to celebrate the accomplishments of those who work so hard to build better lives for a stronger community. It’s a time to step back, reflect on the great work and to honour old friends and new.” said Raymond Deleary, Executive Director of Atlohsa Family Healing Services. “Last year’s event was a huge success, and we want to continue to build on that.”
Supporting women and children at risk of violence, abuse and homelessness
More than 450 people attended the 2018 Peace Awards and raised $45,000 for Atlohsa’s Zhaawanong Shelter, which provides safety for women and children at risk of violence, abuse and homelessness. The donations paid for significant upgrades within the shelter. Funds raised at this year’s event will go to Atlohsa Family Healing Services’ essential needs, programs and services, including the Zhaawanong Shelter.
