We’ve compiled a list of some Canadian scholarships, bursaries, and awards with upcoming deadlines for students studying in the forest and conservation field.

1. Bill Mason Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $1,000
Deadline to apply: September 30, 2021
Number of scholarships available: 1

Eligibility: Canadian citizens enrolled full-time in undergraduate studies at a Canadian university or college, enrolled in their second year or higher. They must have an academic standing of 75% (B+) or higher, and must be enrolled in outdoor recreation, environmental studies, or a related program.

2. TD Scholarships for Community Leadership

Amount: up to $70,000
Deadline to apply: Applications open September 2021

Eligibility: Students in Canada who have demonstrated community leadership, in their final year of high school or CEGEP with a minimum overall grade average of 75% in their most recently completed school year.

3. Loran Award

Amount: $100,000 (over four years)
Deadline: October 13, 2021
Number of scholarships available: 36

Eligibility:

High school students: Canadian citizens or permanent residents in their final year of uninterrupted full-time studies in high school, with a minimum cumulative average of 85% (students who graduated in 2021 and currently taking a gap year are also eligible).

CEGEP students: Canadian citizens or permanent residents in their final year of uninterrupted full-time studies in CEGEP, or if they are planning to attend university outside of Quebec after only one year of CEGEP, they are eligible as well (and students who graduated in 2021 and currently taking a gap year are also eligible). Students must present an R score equal or higher than 29.

4. Pacific Salmon Foundation—Stewardship Community Bursary

Amount: $2,000
Deadline to apply: October 30, 2021
Number of scholarships available: 2

Eligibility: Residents of BC of the Yukon with demonstrated financial need who are active members of the aquatic stewardship volunteer community. They must be enrolled full-time (second year or higher) in an educational or training program at a recognized BC college, university, or technical institute.

5. Hydro One—The William Peyton Hubbard Award

Amount: $5,000
Deadline to apply: October 1, 2021
Number of scholarships available: 4

Eligibility: Canadian citizens or landed immigrants enrolled in an accredited Ontario university full-time. The awards will be given to a Black female and Black male student who have completed a minimum of on year in an undergraduate program in one of the following areas: Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering/Technology, Engineering Science, Forestry, or Business. They must have a strong GPA (B-) and demonstrated leadership skills with involvement in extra-curricular activities within the community or campus.

6. Hydro One—Women in Engineering Award

Amount: $5,000
Deadline to apply: October 1, 2021
Number of scholarships available: 10

Eligibility: Canadian citizens or landed immigrants enrolled in an accredited Ontario university full-time. Preference is given to electrical engineering students, but all women who have completed a minimum of one year of engineering studies in other areas of specialization are encouraged to apply. They must have a strong GPA (B-) and be engaged in outreach, volunteer, or educational activities with younger girls.

7. Indspire/Hydro One—Leonard S. (Tony) Mandamin Awards

Amount: Variable
Deadline to apply: November 1, 2021

Eligibility: Indigenous students attending post-secondary institutions or training programs in Ontario with demonstrated financial need for contribution to education costs. They must demonstrate leadership skills and involvement in their community or extracurricular activities and must be returning to school the following year. Preference is given to students studying in the following academic programs: electrical and mechanical engineering including apprenticeships, skilled trades and technicians such as electrical engineering technology and technician programs, civil engineering technology and technician programs, electrician, power line technician, truck & coach technician, utility arborist, and meter technician, and also post-secondary programs in the electricity and energy industry relations disciplines such as computer science, business, information technology, environmental engineering, environmental science/studies, social sciences/humanities and Indigenous studies.

8. The Norman S. Baldwin Fishery Science Scholarship—International Association for Great Lakes Research

Amount: $3,000 USD
Deadline to apply: December 1, 2021
Number of scholarships available: 2

Eligibility: Master’s or Ph.D. students whose proposed research topic is relevant to Great Lakes fishery research.
