City council endorsed a request of support by Grassy Narrows First Nation for its funding application to upgrade the community’s water treatment system at the regular monthly meeting, Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Council noted the request is for support of the project in principal only and doesn’t financially obligate the municipality to the improvements in any way.

Grassy Narrows band council received approval on Jan. 4 to proceed with the final phase of its application process for a grant under the New Building Canada Fund – Small Communities Fund.

“In order for our final application to be considered complete, we must include a council resolution form a local municipality in support of the project,” Grassy Narrows capital manager Robert Williamson stated in his letter to council. “Without support from your municipality we will be unable to submit an application and will not be able to proceed with the necessary upgrades to our water treatment plant.”
