The deadline to help send 11 delegates to an international Tai Chi festival in China has been extended.

The City of Thunder Bay’s aboriginal liaison unit was invited to attend and participate in a competition and festival in Jiaozuo, China in August. The goal is to share aboriginal culture and heritage at the international event, which will showcase 30 countries.

The group had a goal to raise $25,000 by July 17 but with the date come and gone, Ann Magiskan, the city’s aboriginal liaison, has put the call out for help once again. The goal is to raise $3,500 for each delegate, which will cover travel visas, air and ground transportation, accommodations and meals.

Even though the group has raised around $16,000, Magiskan said the trip is not in jeopardy. She explained that four delegates have been fully sponsored from their First Nation communities.
